Your 2017 Oscars Nominees

I don’t know about you, but I am super excited that it’s Oscars time again! I’m so happy to be back in LA for it, and thrilled to have been a part of CTV’s ETalk Oscars week! There are so many Canadian actors and talent nominated this year and they truly have some amazing content to share.

Their coverage of the red carpet tonight will be epic. Ben Mulroney is the most gracious, knowledgable person in the business and may I add, he’ll be looking quite sharp out there! I am already missing my new Canadian family but looking forward to my next CTV adventure.

I figured I’d compile a list of our nominees so in case you haven’t seen them already or you just want to use it to follow along tonight, we have it! Feel free to let me know your thoughts and predictions. Also, you can follow me on twitter @teeco71 and also follow @etalkCTV for all the red carpet fun!

EnchantaCon Presents a Weekend With the Stars Of Once Upon A Time

Courtesy of MichelleG Photography

Last weekend it was my pleasure to attend the very first EnchantaCon.  This was the first time any convention was dedicated solely to the stars of the ABC hit television show, Once Upon A Time.  It seemed like I had been waiting for it for such a long time, yet it also felt like it crept up on us rather quickly, sort of like Christmas.  Also, much like Christmas, there was a feeling of excitement, nervousness, and love in the air.  People traveled from all over the United States, some from Canada, and some from as far as Brazil.  No matter where they came from, everyone was there to express their love for the show and its stars. Everyone who attended was also there to see or in many cases meet the amazing person behind it all, Laurie Mahoney and of course the emcee of the event, Joshua Reid-Davis. Laurie worked tirelessly to put this event together and it showed in the success of it all.  Both Laurie and Josh were truly the hearts behind the whole event and the staff could not have been nicer or more helpful! Of course, everyone in attendance including the staff and volunteers where there to see their favorite stars like Keegan Connor Tracy (The Blue Fairy/Mother Superior), David Anders (Dr. Whale), Tony Amendola (Geppetto/Marco), Ethan Embry (Greg Mendell), Gil McKinney (Prince Eric), and Raphael Sbarge (Jiminy Cricket/Archie Hopper).  I even got to interview Raphael for a bit, which I will share with you here.  There were a few actors who were supposed to be appearing but, as luck would have it, their shooting schedules for the show conflicted with the weekend.  Even with that snafu, they were able to Skype in for a Q&A session thank to technology! Beverly Elliot (Granny), Mike Coleman (Happy), Lee Arenberg (Grumpy), and Faustino Di Bauda (Sleepy) totally Wowed the audience by appearing from Canada and kept every one entertained for the good part of an hour. For anyone who was able to make it to this very first EnchantaCon, it was an experience not to be forgotten. Since it was the first, it was very intimate with ample time to chat and get to know a little about your favorite actor as well as share a bit about yourself.  For a first time event, the staff did an amazing job.  There were very few schedule changes and things stayed relatively on time.  In the convention business, most of us know that there really is no such thing as a set in stone schedule or staying on time.  The cocktail party, banquet, dance, and Sunday morning breakfast were all quite entertaining and the food was fantastic.  Pretty much everyone I spoke to said they will be attending the next EnchantaCon and for those of you who couldn’t make it or are hearing about it for the first time, I encourage you to join us!  If you go to the EnchantaCon Facebook page, you will see tons of photos from the weekend & you can check there to see when the next one is announced. Again, I say the staff did an amazing job with the event. Laurie, Josh, Virginia, Sarah, Lenora, Brandon, Jamie, Trent, Susan, Renee, Samantha, and all of the staff and volunteers should be

thanked and I do hope they all return for the conventions to come!  Michelle and Renee also did a fantastic job with the photos, be sure to check them out on Facebook! As I mentioned, I did get to speak to Raphael Sbarge briefly about EnchantaCon and about Once Upon A Time. Here is our interview: When I asked Raphael about his thoughts on Conventions, EnchantaCon, and his experiences that weekend he said: “The big cons are wonderful and adrenaline filled with lots of people where EnchantaCon was more like a dinner party where fans & stars got to hang out and chat. It was preferable for fans and like a dream come true for many. Some even commented that they couldn’t believe they were having brunch with Jiminy Cricket.  I feel like I’ve gotten to  know them.” When I asked him about what he was taking away from the experience, he said: “I feel like I’ve gotten to know them.  I feel how dear the characters are to the fans and I feel I now know who I am talking to each week. The response to Jiminy Cricket is bigger than I expected relative to the screen time he’s actually had in the series.” When I asked Raphael what he thinks makes Jiminy Cricket so loved by fans, his response was: “Jiminy hits a nerve with so many when it comes to doing good and doing the right thing.  He learned to do right by doing wrong for so long.  He became committed to doing the right thing. Fans say Jiminy Cricket has been like an anchor.” I also asked him what he thinks draws people to the show each week: “Fantasy and fairy tales help take people away from hardships for that hour they are watching.  Parables help people to make decisions or find order in their lives and make sense of it all.” He even shared a story with me about a fan who had lost a parent and was in a deep depression but found comfort and hope in watching Once Upon A Time each week.

I wanted to know what some of the highlights of the weekend were for Raphael: ” So many lovely moments, seeing people so excited to see the actor who plays their favorite characters.  Being able to interact with fans off set.  There was a strong sense that lots of memories were being created for fans.  I remember going to Star Trek conventions and getting Gene Roddenberry’s autograph from the original Star Trek, it was the same excitement.” So many delightful moments, I’d love to share a few video clips from the weekend:

7 Highlights from the very first EnchantaCon

I also would encourage you to check EnchantaCon’s Facebook page and their website to see when the next one will be announced. We all hope to see you there! As they say, Be Enchanted!

EyeConTVD6 Sneak Peek

This past weekend, the attendees of EyeCon’s Vampire Diaries/The Originals convention were treated to the usual supernatural experience from their favorite actors.  As usual, in addition to all the super star experiences, new friendships were formed among the fans, good times were shared, and many laughs were heard throughout.  If you have never experienced a convention of this kind, may I suggest you check one out soon.  A great place to start would be at the next EyeCon event which should take place in March of 2014.

The conventions truly exceed any of our normal expectations and EyeCon is especially dear to many of us.  I  can’t even count the number of friends I have made there nor can I count the stand-out moments from the 5 I have attended. The celebrities, the guests, and the truly stellar staff make these weekends a true highlight of each year.

Although I was having a blast, I took some time out to record some of the Question and Answer sessions to share for those of you who could not attend.  After seeing these, I hope you are tempted to check one out for yourself.  These clips only represent a small portion of the festivities but as you can see, they are experiences that are quite valuable.  Make sure to keep an eye out for EyeCon‘s next convention on their page so you can join in the fun next time!!!  For those of you who were in attendance this past weekend, feel free to share your experiences here for others to see.

To all the friends I have made at these events, I cannot wait to see you again! Thankfully, many of us will be in Orlando in a few weeks for EnchantaCon, the very first convention with the stars of ABC’s Once Upon a Time.  I look forward to seeing you all there and at the next EyeCon event!
