A Healthy Dose of “Obsession”

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan Jetson, one of the founding members of the group Obsession, and he agreed to do a little interview along with Aaron Tiller  for Teeco71.com.  Jonathan is 19 and Aaron is 21 but as you can see from their answers, they are mature beyond their years when it comes to their music.

Obsession’s sound is a fussion of electronica, pop, and dance with lots of high energy.  You can sample their song, Get Your Party On here:

Here’s our Q & A session:

Q:  How did you get started in music? And where did you come up with the name for your group? Give us a little history on Obsession.

A: Well, Obsession is made up of two members: Jonathan and Aaron. While sitting at home bored on our computer one day in 2008 we came up with the idea to make a song, “Infatuation” our first release. We didn’t expect any of the outcome we received but we’re happy to be where we are now. When thinking of a name for our group, we thought of the whole basis of fame, why people are famous and why fans adore celebrities so much…. that’s how we came to the decision that obsession is really what every fan has for a celebrity and what we hoped would come from people.

Q: Who are the members of the group? A little about each person would be great.

A:  There are two members of Obsession, Jonathan Jetson, 19, and Aaron Tiller, 21. We were both born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. We both think that family comes first and dreams come second. We’ve known each other for years and wouldn’t want any other music partner than each other.

Q: Who are your biggest influences musically?  Who would you love to work with? (producers, singers, songwriters)

A: We love all kinds of music and many different artists inspire us. Right now we would love to work with Ke$ha. Her style of music and over all image intrigues us.

Q: Your favorite song other than your own that is out right now?  All time favorite song?

A: Our favorite song our right now is “Grenade” by Bruno Mars. We don’t really have an all-time favorite song but classic Mariah Carey is the best!

Q: Do you write your own music and lyrics?

A: Yes!

Q: Are there any causes you are passionate about that you would like to one day be able to help through your music and success?

A: We are very proud to support Going Green! We try to do anything to help save our planet and we think that everyone should! Readers, please visit their website and find ways to do your part is saving the planet: http://www.goinggreen.com/

Q: To date, what has been the most exciting thing that has happened to you with regard to your career?

A: We have had opportunities to work with so many great people and so much positive feedback from fans. That is the greatest feeling knowing people are enjoying what we’re doing!

Q: What attracts you to a song? If you write your own, what influences or inspires your writing?

A: Emotions attract us to the song and what we’re feeling from present or past experience is written to express in words those feelings.

Q: Where do you think the music industry is headed? Today’s artists face many obstacles when it comes to sales and exposure. I have notice many of them using sites like Kickstarter.com to raise money to make videos, CD’s, go on tours, etc.

A: It is true that the industry is very difficult to break into, because of so many people having exposure it makes the competition so high that you have to promote yourself and be promoted by others to keep your fan-base growing.

Q: How do you think Social Media plays a role in a career in music?  Does it hurt or help artists in the long run?

A: It very much helps! We don’t think it would ever hurt. It’s this generations way of promoting whatever you’re doing. Without it artists, like ourselves, couldn’t rely on people to spread the word about our music. It also makes it a little easier to meet talented people to work with.

Q: Of course I need the details of your upcoming release. Full CD or single?  Will it be available on iTunes only or in other places?

A: Our new single “Get Your Party On” will be available on iTunes, Amazon, & Rhapsody on February 8th, along with a remix version!
Follow us on Twitter http://twitter.com/realOBSESSION for a link when it’s available!

Q: Website link, facebook, and any other sites you have.

A: We’re working on launching our official website at this time and should be up very soon!
